A lot has happened since last night's post . At 10:30 pm the doctor decided it was about time to pull the drain tube out of Maria's stomach and throat. They crimped the end so the suction would cease and waited six hours. They had to monitor to see if everything would travel into her digestive track or if it would remain stagnent in her tummy. After six hours they hooked a large syringe to the end of the tub that was crimped and pulled any accumulated fluids from her stomach. There was hardly a trace of fluids so everything was traveling in the right direction. At 4:30 AM they pulled the tube out. Maria says it was the grossest experience you'd ever want to have. The only time I've ever seen Maria happier during this experience was when she found out that Dr. Lim would take her as a patient. Taking this tube out made Maria very, very happy.
Today, Maria got to take a nice hot shower and wash her hair this morning. "It was a great way to start my day. Especially after waking up in a pool of sweat." She went for a walk and went all day without pain medication or oxygen. Pain meds make it difficult to pass gas or bowl movements, so she stopped the meds to try to pass gas. She really wants to do so so that she can eat. They ended up taking the tube out without her passing gas and now they say they'll have to wait to feed her real food until she does.
Maria felt some really strong cramps inside that she is hoping were gas pains.
Her major issue throughout today was the catheter. They did several things to address the issue but it continues to leak. Finally, the decision of the doctor at 9:40 PM tonight was that it must be replaced.
"It was a long day without anything super eventful."
thank you for your prayers, thoughts and donations. good night and God bless.
